Those interested can join in person at the library or online via Zoom. Did you know? There is a booklist in our catalog for local authors. Click here to see it! These books also have special stickers on their spines, even though they appear in all different parts of the library collection.

Abigail Kipp released her first book of poetry and prose this year. Of Monsters and Maidens explores themes of lost love, drug abuse, destructive love and obsession, sexual abuse, violence, mental illness, pain, and suicide attempts. Kipp uses crystal-clear, complex imagery to describe bleak scenes of the modern world. Although shattering in concept and execution, this anthology is nonetheless brilliant and relatable on every level.

Christophe Maso’s debut novella, Scream of the Butterfly, is a paranormal/contemporary Southern Gothic tale, described as “disconcerting” by some. Handsome, gifted young James Laurent has a story to tell you. His father will likely be the next governor, and his own future is bright. But James carries a dark secret–he’s a sociopath who’s done terrible things, and he doesn’t know how to love. That is, until he meets Morgan, a strong, beautiful farm girl who captures his heart and turns his world on its ear. But Morgan harbors secrets of her own…and as James will discover, creatures far darker than he walk this earth.

Christophe Maso is an author of paranormal, gothic, and dark fantasy fiction. He lives in Silver City with his wife, Kathy Navarrete. He’s a member of the Horror Writers Association, The Denver Horror Collective, and the Brooklyn Speculative Fiction Writers group. His debut novella, “Scream of the Butterfly”, was published by D&T Publishing in May 2022, and his short story “Feast of the Senses” appears in the horror anthology “Consumed: Tales Inspired by the Wendigo”. Raven Drake moved to Grant County over 21 years ago and found inspiration in the magical geography of the area. His work reflects an ongoing exploration of and fascination with assorted mythic realms, and multi-dimensions of the imagination. For years, he’s been interested in poetry as an act of conjuration or spellcraft, taking as a given that archetypal space/time is fully inhabited by various aspects of the soul/self.

Along with having two books on Amazon, The Jagged Edge and Cruel Radiance, Mr. Drake was a presenter at the Southwest Word Fiesta in both 2013 and 2019. Raven also wrote for the Silver City Quarterly Review from 2015 to 2018 and was one of the writers selected for final inclusion into their anthology.
