El Portal provides free access anytime to resources that aren’t free on the Internet. El Portal is free to anyone in New Mexico. Need to look at the repair manual for your car? Check out the Chilton manuals. Looking to start your own business? Try El Portal’s Small Business Resource Center. Trying to read a news story, but can’t access it without a subscription? Try Newsbank.
El Portal also includes BrainFuse HelpNow for homework and study help for students of all ages and levels. BrainFuse JobNow provides career resources, and resume and interview help.
El Portal is provided by the New Mexico State Library.
Educate Station
Educate Station offers week-by-week downloadable lesson plans and worksheets for preschool through sixth grade, perfect for homeschoolers, especially when you’re just starting out. It’s also a great place to find supplemental practice materials for your young student, wherever they go to school. Access Educate Station at educatestation.com/access/silver-city-public-library-nm . Inside the library, no login is required. At home, you’ll need to enter your library card number.

Tutoring and GED/High School Equivalency
High school equivalency test preparation and other education support for adults is offered by the library’s partner organization, Literacy Link-Leamos. Their office has moved to Watts Hall, the large building with a digital billboard on the front at the corner of Swan St. and Highway 180. They share space with WNMU Adult Education Services. Adult Education Services also offers classes to prepare for high school equivalency tests.

For in-person tutoring for children and teens, ask Literacy Link during their Friday office hours here at the library. Tutoring for youth is not their primary mission, but they may be able to connect you with someone.
College Entrance and Advanced Placement Tests
Preparation materials for the ACT, SAT, Classical Learning Test (CLT), and Advanced Placement tests are also available on BrainFuse HelpNow from the NM State Library. Freetestprep.com also offers resources.
