We can also get you started on free library digital services like e-books and audiobooks on Libby; audiobooks, movies, and more on Hoopla; Flipster digital magazines; Kanopy films; Rocket Languages; Ancestry; and the New York Times online. You’re invited to bring your device!

GrantStation Workshop/Guided Tour

The library will host an informal GrantStation workshop on Monday, May 18, 10:00-11:00am at the library. Librarian Lillian Galloway will lead an exploration of the platform. During the tour, participants can suggest specific grant criteria to try searching, and the group can troubleshoot tricky searches together. Those interested in attending are asked to contact the library to sign up, if possible, so organizers have an idea of how many to expect. Call 575-538-3672, email programs@silvercitypubliclibrary.org, or stop by the library to sign up.

To access GrantStation, grantseekers must be in the library building. They can use a library computer, or use their own device on the library’s wireless internet connection. Then grantseekers should use the internet address grantstation.com/library-login. Library staff members are available to assist.

As described on their website grantstation.com, GrantStation offers organizations and agencies the opportunity to identify potential funding sources for their programs or projects as well as resources to mentor these organizations through the grantseeking process. The database serves all grantseekers: nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, government agencies, religious organizations, and independent grant professionals.

Tech Mini-Workshops

Look out for 45-60 minute workshops on targeted, specific tech topics such as email tips, 3 ways to do word processing, internet searching, hard drives and clouds, and online dating scams. Coming soon!

Digital Services Workshop

Learn how to get started with Libby, hoopla, Flipster, Kanopy, Rocket Languages, The New York Times, and Ancestry online. The presenter will touch upon GrantStation if there is time. Workshop attendees are encouraged to obtain a library card or check to make sure their library card is up-to-date before the workshop. No registration is required.

Digital Literacy Training: 21^st Century Skills for a Sustainable Grant County

The Digital Literacy Training: 21^st Century Skills for a Sustainable Grant County project ran from March 2014 to March 2015 and was funded by a $15,000 grant from the Freeport-McMoran Community Investment Fund. The partnership involved the Silver City Public Library, the Bayard Public Library, WNMU Adult Education Services, the New Mexico Small Business Development Center, New Mexico Workforce Connection, Literacy Link – Leamos, and the Silver City Arts and Cultural District. The library is building on the partnerships forged, lessons learned, and feedback gathered during the first project year. We will continue to promote the development of the technology skills that are essential for economic growth, and increase the capacity of citizens to fully engage in the community, access needed services, and participate in educational opportunities.
