The metaphor is a powerful tool for creating layers of meaning and visually engaging description. Using one of her favorite poems by Pulitzer Prize-winning author, N. Scott Momaday as a guide, Eve West Bessier will lead us in exploring how to deepen the metaphor and enrich our own work, whether poetry or prose.

This workshop will include three approximately 20-minute sections.

Section One: We will read N. Scott Momaday’s poem, “Delight Song of Tsoai-talee.” Copies will be provided. We will discuss his metaphors. What makes them powerful? Then we will create some metaphors of our own together.

Section Two: We will have 20 minutes to write our own “Delight Song” poems, focusing on creating strong metaphors.

Section Three: We will have 20 minutes to share our writing with each other.

Please bring a notebook and pen with you for the writing time. This event is cosponsored by the Southwest Festival of the Written Word. Thank you!
