The Silver City Public Library will be hosting Sean Gaskell live in concert. Sean has delighted audiences across the United States and Canada with his kora, a 21 stringed West African harp. Koras have been used extensively in West Africa and are traditionally played by oral historians known as Griots, and have a history that stretches back over 800 years to the founding of the Mande empire. Over the course of ten years and three extensive trips to Africa, Sean studied under two accomplished West African musicians, and is helping to preserve and spared awareness of the rich musical traditions of West Africa. Thanks to the support of The Friends of the Library, this event is free to the public.
