Free children’s crafts & kits are now available from New Mexico’s Department of Cultural Affairs and are being distributed on a first-come first-serve basis through the Silver City Public Library. With museums and other cultural institutions shut down or limiting in-person access, these kits are a way to taste some of New Mexico’s cultural connections through crafts and activities. The projects include:
- a coloring book package from the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture
- a “Glimpse of Life on the Reservation” kit with weaving, adobe block –making and more from the Bosque Redondo Memorial
- “Making and Breaking Pots” from the Center for New Mexico Archeology
- and a packet on celebrating music in New Mexico with supplies to make your own sound shakers from Wonders on Wheels.
These are all perfect projects for children to engage in over the Christmas break from school. Supplies are limited so call soon to schedule a curbside pickup appointment with Silver City Public Library at (575) 538-3672. We are limiting the kits to 1 per child or 2 per family.
