Library Participates in SW Festival of the Written Word

The library is excited to be part of the Southwest Festival of the Written Word, an event that brings together those who create with those who appreciate the written word. The Festival is this weekend, September 29 – October 1, 2017! More than 30 authors, poets, playwrights, publishers, journalists, and songwriters will be at more than 30 sessions throughout downtown Silver City and the WNMU campus. For a taste, here are the sessions happening at the library:

Friday 2:00-3:00pm: Biographers Ron Hamm and Stephen Fox discuss what they learned from delving into other people’s lives.

Friday 3:30-4:30pm: Political journalist and playwright Algernon D’Ammassa discusses his work.

Saturday 10:00-11:00am: Writing Across Languages: renowned translators Roger Metcalfe and Dick Gerdes in conversation about the fine art of rendering other people’s words into English.

Saturday 1:30-2:30pm: Writers who set up their own publishing presses/imprints in conversation about the challenges and opportunities. Featuring Jesús J. Barquet, Peter Riva, and Stewart Warren.

Saturday 3:00-4:00pm: How is journalism changing? A discussion with Kate NelsonAlgernon D’Ammassa, and Benjamin Fisher.
