Jamie O’Hara the Magic Guy will officially kick off the summer reading programs at the Bayard Public Library and Silver City Public Library this year. The Magic Guy will perform at the Bayard Public Library on Tuesday, June 6, 10:30am, and on Wednesday, June 7, 10:30am at the Silver City Public Library. A full-time entertainer for more than 20 years, having done over 5000 magical performances, Jamie O’Hara delights people of all ages with his stories, wit, and amazing illusions.
The Silver City Public Library summer reading program will run from June 6 through July 21, with a final grand prize party on Friday, July 28. Community members can sign up to track their reading and win prizes during the summer, and they can attend a wide range of different activities for all ages. Activities will include storytimes, movie showings, and a hangout space for teens on Fridays. Every Thursday morning at 10:30 there will be “Salvage Art Club,” where children ages 6-12 can make beautiful crafts using recycled materials. Summer reading registration has begun, and continues through the duration of the program. Those interested in signing up can do so at the Silver City Public Library front desk, bringing their library card if they have one.
The Bayard Public Library summer reading program will run from June 6 through June 30, Tuesdays through Fridays, 10:30am-12:00pm each day. Other activities happening at the Bayard Public Library include presentations by the Asombro Institute for Science Education (“Amazing Arthropods!”) and Archeology of the Southwest. The Bayard Public Library is located at 1112 Central Avenue in Bayard. Their summer hours are Mondays 12:00-6:00pm, and Tuesdays-Fridays 9:00am-6:00pm. The Wonders on Wheels van from the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs will be visiting both libraries with a traveling exhibit on Dinosaurs in New Mexico. The van will be at the Silver City library on June 6, 11:00am-2:00pm.
The Friends of the Silver City Public Library provide funding for special performers, incentives, activity supplies, and everything else needed to make the summer reading program a success each year.
