Festival Children’s and Youth Events

Organizers of the Southwest Festival of the Written Word are pleased to announce that the Festival will include a variety of activities for children, tweens, and teens on Saturday, October 3 at the Silver City Public Library.

From 10:00am to 12:30pm Jennifer Cervantes, author of Tortilla Sun, will discuss how she became an author and how to stay inspired. She will read from her recently completed manuscript Mighty Zig and will offer a question and answer period. This session will be geared towards middle school and high school youth.

From 1:30pm to 4:00pm author and illustrator of children’s and young adult books Betsy James will give a presentation. Betsy has written and illustrated many children’s books including My Chair, Tadpoles, and Flashlight, as well as The Seeker Chronicles series for young adult readers. Betsy is an advocate for literacy, running workshops all over the Southwest and further afield.

Families are also encouraged to take part in activities outside the library throughout the day including sidewalk chalk stories, letter hopscotch, and outdoor word games. Literacy Link-Leamos will also be there with free books and information about their services. We look forward to seeing you!
